What is a Dewormer, and is it Necessary?

March 9th, 2010 · No Comments

By Leigh Ann

Basically, a horse has internal parasites. Dewormers will rid a horse of these parasites and help keep him healthy.

Because differing dewormers attack different parasites, the type of dewormer should be switched each time to make sure all parasites are taken care of. This is done on a rotating schedule.

Most people say that a horse should be dewormed every 6 to 8 weeks. But check with your vet to be sure of your horse’s needs.
